The Moroccan Chef offers Market shoppers an insight into Moroccan cuisine, opening the doors to a culture embedded in history, tradition, colour, festival and of course food.
“The Moroccan Chef is a taste of Marrakesh,” says Anouar Senar. “Many people find Moroccan food very appealing because it is a unique mix of sweet, salty, and earthy spice flavours.”
Anouar opened the first Moroccan restaurant in South Australia, the Moroccan Kasbar, on Unley Rd. He has owned and managed the Moroccan Tagine and Bin 273, teaches Moroccan cooking through WEA and appeared in a 2007 episode of the Cook and Chef, on ABC TV with Maggie Beer.
“I would like to bring my heritage, knowledge and culture of Morocco to Market shoppers as I believe it will enhance the diversity of produce available to South Australian customers,” says Anouar.
Like the basis of the Market’s local produce ethos, Moroccan Chef’s raw ingredients are proudly home grown mint, almonds, walnuts, cherries, lemons, melons and pomegranates.
“My vision is to use local organic produce where possible, from South Australian producers,” says Anouar.
Moroccan Chef’s tantalising products include:
- Ras al Hanous – mixed Moroccan spices
- Preserved lemons
- Moroccan harissa
- Selection of dips – homous, beetroot, fetta cheese, yoghurt, eggplant
- Moroccan mixed couscous
- Moroccan chicken tagine
- Moroccan meat balls
Anouar conducts private cooking classes, caters for functions and distributes his Moroccan food products to various gourmet shops across South Australia.
