We also have sensory scientist Briony Liebich (who looks after the beer flavour quality for Lion Nathan) with us to teach us how to judge cheese, olive oil and beer.
And I will be making my favourite winter soup using Market ingredients on the last Sunday in July. We also have our regular kitchen guests to spice up your Sunday mornings at the Market. Check out our program of events for more details.

Packed with wonderful stories about the people and traditions behind the recipes, the Blue Ribbon Cookbook is a fantastic gift for friends or family who love traditional baking. Top Explore the role of your senses in judging good taste with sensory specialist Briony Liebich on Sunday 24 June.
Briony has experience in evaluating cheese, olive oil, wine and beer and training others to do the same. Briony has managed tasting panels for wine and food industry research and currently works at SA Brewing where she assists with maintaining product quality and keeping expert beer tasters well trained.
What does the judging of cheese, olive oil, wine and beer have in common?
The audience can learn ways to characterise components such as how aroma, flavour and texture distinguishes one product from another and learn how cheese, olive oil, wine and beer are judged by the experts.
Top On Sunday 10 July, the Adelaide Showground is hosting the SES National Disaster Competition.
There will be pedestrians and traffic around the Showgrounds so please use the pedestrian crossings where possible when walking to and from the Market.

 - The winning entry of the Fun with Fungi competition, from Alex Gaut
The Fun with Fungi session on Sunday 19 June was an outstanding success. Held in conjunction with RiAus and the Australian Mushroom Growers Association, as part of the Royal Institution of Australia's Science Outside the Square program, the session attracted young and old to learn and view fungi of all shapes and sizes.
As part of the event, a photo competition was held. Photographers submitted pics of unusual or photogenic fungi and we congratulate the winner, Alex Gaut, for her fungi picture (shown above). Alex won a BBQ set, cookbooks and a fungi guide pack. Congratulations also to runners-up Amanda Daniel (of 2B: Ethical Food!), Louise Hart, Amy Blaylock and James Smith who all won a fungi guide pack. To see the winning entry and all the runners up, click here.
We would like to thank Stephan Kern, and the team from RiAus, Pam Tobin from the Australian Mushroom Growers Association, and mycologist Pam Catchside and partners, for making this such a successful day.
Top In July we welcome a new stallholder to the Market. - The Wild Apple's property at Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills
This month we welcome The Wild Apple to the Market, selling NASAA-certified organic apples and pears at the Market at site 90.
The Wild Apple will have a wide range of apples for sale, including Fuji, Gala, Sundowner, Granny Smiths, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Pink Lady apples. They will also have Duchess, Packham, Beurré Bosc and Nashi pears.
Tim Nielsen bought his Lenswood property 3 years ago, while looking for a haven in the hills after many years working as a curator of birds in zoos right across Australia. Originally from Queensland, Tim and his partner Heather are keen to sell their produce at the Market to help reduce food miles.
Heather told us,
"We sell lots of produce to the Eastern states and we are keen to reduce food miles and sell produce locally. We are very much about value-adding and reducing waste."
Tim said that after many years working with birds, his friends at the Adelaide Zoo find it funny that he now curses birds eating his apples on the farm!

Scan your membership card on 10 July and be in the draw to win one of two family passes to Little Big Shots Film Festival on Saturday 23 July!
The world's best films for kids, about kids, to amaze & delight kids.
Little Big Shots is Australia's major annual and travelling children's film festival. It's also an inspiring, meaningful and fun-filled festival of the best in local and international children's features, shorts, animations, documentaries and, amazingly, child-produced films.
The idea to stage a major Melbourne international children’s film festival was originally conceived by Nick Place at Media Giants in 2004. Seven years on, Little Big Shots has become its own not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the media literacy of young people, fostering children's creativity and showcasing the very best in filmmaking for, by and about kids. The festival also tours all around Australia and will screen at the Adelaide Festival Centre from 21-23 July.
The festival now stands as Australia’s only major stand-alone kids’ film festival - a niche Australian event. With its focus on short films for kids plus plenty of competitions and opportunities for involvement, Little Big Shots is one of the year’s most exciting experiences for kids.

In the spirit of Company B Belvoir’s The Small Poppies, Neil Armfield puts his big short pants on again for a special presentation of The Book of Everything.
Thomas is nine and he’s started to write a book. His father says all important books are about God. Even so, Thomas writes down all the interesting things he sees that other people seem to ignore: tropical fish in the canal, a deluge of frogs, the Son of God popping in for a chat …
He also writes down his greatest determination: When I grow up, I’m going to be happy.
Featuring Jesus, the angels, the Bottombiter, the startling Mrs Van Amersfoort and a beautiful girl with a leather leg, this is a totally magical story about a child learning to act when faced with fear and wrong. Acclaimed children’s author Guus Kuijer’s magnificently humble story grabs your heart, challenges your mind, and makes you laugh, no matter how old you are.
Boasting a sold out season in Sydney The Book of Everything features a stellar Australian cast including Alison Bell, Iain Grandage, Deborah Kennedy, John Leary and Matthew Whittet.

Alnda Farms at site 84 have some lovely new season Jerusalem artichokes (pictured). Brenda from Alnda Farms told us a little bit about Jerusalem artichokes.
"Jerusalem artichokes are not truly artichokes, they are actually related to the sunflower. The Jerusalem artichoke has been grown in North America since the 1500s. They provide potassium, magnesium and iron so they are great for vegetarians. Potassium and magnesium are good for your heart and your blood pressure too," she said.
Brenda shares her quick cook recipe for Jerusalem artichokes with us.
"Grab a saucepan, pour in enough olive oil to just cover the bottom of the pan, add one chopped leek or onion, also add a half a rasher of bacon chopped, then add 500gm of sliced Jerusalem artichokes, (no need to peel them, just scrub & slice) cover and cook on low heat, they are cooked when soft. It's a real treat," she said.

Top Find Cooinda Proprietors at the Market at site 74
Cooinda Proprietors have been selling their citrus and stone-fruit at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market since the Market opened. Based at Swan Reach, we spoke to Mark Grieger about this year's crop.
"We have a heavier crop this season," said Mark, "with the majority of fruit being late navals. Shoppers might also find a few Washingtons if they're lucky," he said. "We have a few of grapefruit, some Imperial mandarins and of course there is our dried fruit."
Mark said he expects the citrus season to run through until late November however they will have their dried fruit all year round, saying dried apricots are their "biggest seller by a country mile". Cooinda also sell stone fruit during the summer months, including apricots, nectarines and peaches, as well as a few figs.
The Griegers use minimal spray techniques on their 600 hectare property, where they also run beef cattle and sheep. The property has been in he family for 112 year years, and is still a settlers' property.
"We have locked up large areas of the scrub as our own private conservation area," said Mark, "Dad was a greeny long before I'd even heard of the word".
Mark said the family has been using environmentally-sound irrigation practices and their water use is well below industry standard. However even with the higher rainfall, he said the farm is still affected by the drought of recent years.
"We have been replanting mandarins and lemons since we've had slightly better water allocations," said Mark, "but it will take two to three years before a good quantity of fruit is available for the Market. We have also replated 800 plum trees in the last couple of years," he said.
Cooinda is a seasonal producer and are at the Market when produce is available. In July, they will be at the Market on 3 July, 10 July and 24 July.
