Elizabeth Taylor doesn’t take the bee for granted. With over 25 years experience as an apiarist Elizabeth knows that to produce half a kilo of honey the bee will need to have flown 80,000 kilometres, or twice around the globe.
Elizabeth produces cold-extracted table honey and other quality bee-related products at Friebe's, a small family business based in Morgan.
The honey flavours fluctuate depending on the where the Friebe’s 100 hives are situated. Each orchard or area where the hives are placed produces honey flavoured from particular blossoms. Hence honey can taste of Mallee, orange blossom, lucerne or various stone fruit.
Honey hues can vary from water-white to yellow, brown and nearly black, due to the source of the bee’s food. But in every case it is always pure Friebe honey.
This honey impressed the judges at the 2006 Royal Adelaide Show, winning second place at its first appearance. At the 2007 Show Friebe’s honey was awarded a first, second and two thirds.
Elizabeth’s hand-made beeswax candles are made from clarified wax using non-chemical methods to separate out any impurities before being passed through a fine filter.
Another innovative product is the Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Syrup which Elizabeth describes as a cordial which is popular with the adults.
Friebe’s products can be found in various outlets across South Australia and Victoria and at the Waikerie Local Producer's Market and the Riverland Farmer's Market in Berri.
