Tracey and Glen Hill live at Meningie, a small township on the edge of Lake Alexandrina. They see themselves as part of the hunter gatherer tradition, fishing with their hand-thrown nets in the fragile tidal lake system that feeds directly from the Murray River into Lake Alexandrina, the Coorong and along the coastal sandbanks.
After the recent seasonal rain flowing down the River Murray, this region’s fragile environment is once again coming to life. The tidal waters of the Coorong is the source of mullet, black bream, mulloway and many other varieties. Tracey and Glen catch, process, smoke their fish on their property 100 metres from the Lake’s edge ensuring the quality, freshness and flavour of their product.
Fishing licences and catches are closely monitored to ensure the ongoing sustainability of both the industry and the area’s fish stocks.
Smoked mullet (chilli and plain) is always available at the stall and other fresh fish varieties will be on sale when the fishing supply allows. Check the website or ring Tracey and Glen to check availability or to place and order.
