Produce: jersey cow cheeses, cream and milk

To make award-winning Alexandrina Cheese, each day starts with rich, creamy milk from 80 (well loved and individually named!) Jersey cows.
Alexandrina Cheese Company’s dairy herd is fed on long, green, clover pasture grown on the rolling hills of the family farm, in the hills just outside of Mt Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
The McCaul family began making cheese in 1902 and third generation Dan McCaul and his family continue the tradition in their modern purpose-built cheese factory at Mt Jagged.
The traditional cheesemaking process involves the use of exclusive starter cultures and rennet as it has for over a hundred years.
The reward for this honouring of tradition has been 13 gold and silver medals at the 2008 South Australian Dairy Awards for the Company.
That same year Alexandrina Cheese Company waved the Australian flag at the Inaugural World Jersey Cheese Awards on Jersey Island, United Kingdom. The McCaul family were delighted to receive two prizes from the prestigious World Jersey Cheese Awards; one for their Cheddar and the other for their Edam.
You can find the Alexandrina Cheese Company at the Willunga Farmers Market every Saturday fortnight or at their Mt Jagged farm-gate shop.
