Edible Garden with Diana Bickford from Bickleigh Vale Farm
March is the new Spring! It’s the perfect time of year to get your vegies in so dig in here and get the buzz on Autumn gardening.
We’re heading for the Autumn equinox. What’s an equinox?
There are two equinoxes a year, one in March (Autumn) and one in September (Spring). They occur when the sun is positioned directly over the equator, so day and night are in perfect balance with around 12 hours each. The days gradually shorten from 21 March onwards so make the most of the sunlight hours in your garden whilst you can!
We planted rainbow chard in the garden on Sunday ‘cause we love the striking spectrum of colours it creates in the vegie patch! Peas were also popped into peat pots to take home to watch them germinate.
Take a look at the tepees in our Edible Garden; already our telephone peas are 6cm high and sending out dainty tendrils to make the climb up tall bamboo stakes.
If you’re looking for a catchy tune to get you jumping, try a skipping or hand clapping song like this one:
Pease pudding hot
Pease pudding cold
Pease pudding in the pot nine days old
Some like it hot
Some like it cold
Some like it in the pot nine days old
